What This Service Does
I Didn't Use AI helps students demonstrate the authenticity of their writing. We offer two tools:
- Web Analyzer — You sign in with Google, select a Google Docs document, and we analyze the revision history in your browser to generate an evidence report.
- Google Docs Add-on (coming soon) — Records automatic snapshots of your writing process every 60 seconds with tamper-proof hash chains.
Web Analyzer — How It Works
When you use the web analyzer:
- You sign in with your Google account using Google's secure OAuth system.
- You select one specific document using Google Picker.
- We access that document's revision history using the Google Drive API with the
drive.file scope — this means we can only access the document you explicitly select.
- All analysis happens in your browser. Your document content is never sent to our servers.
What Data We Collect
Web Analyzer
- Nothing from your document — all processing happens locally in your browser.
- Email address (optional) — only if you choose to enter it when downloading a PDF report.
Add-on (Coming Soon)
- Writing process data: word count, edit timestamps, and SHA-256 hashes of your document text at each snapshot.
- Session data: when you started and stopped writing, number of edits per session.
- Your narrative (optional): a brief description you write about your process.
What We Never Collect
- The actual text of your documents
- Your name or personal information (beyond optional email)
- Browsing history, cookies, or advertising data
- Access to any Google Drive files other than the one you select
Where Data Is Stored
- Web Analyzer: Your document data exists only in your browser's memory during analysis. When you close the page, it's gone. We never store it.
- Email addresses (if provided): stored on our Cloudflare Workers infrastructure, encrypted at rest.
- Add-on: Writing process data is stored locally in your Google Document using Google's built-in DocumentProperties storage. This data never leaves your Google account unless you choose to export it.
- Verification server (Add-on, optional): receives only SHA-256 hashes and timestamps. Hashes are one-way and cannot be reversed into your original text.
Google OAuth and Permissions
We use Google OAuth with the drive.file scope. This is a per-file permission — it grants access only to the specific file you select through Google Picker. We cannot see your other files, folders, or any other Google account data.
You can revoke our access at any time:
- Go to Google Account → Security → Third-party apps
- Find "I Didn't Use AI" and click Remove Access
How We Use Your Data
Solely to generate a writing process evidence report that you can submit to your instructor. Nothing else.
We do not use your data for advertising, AI training, profiling, or any purpose other than providing this service.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party.
Your Rights
- Revoke Google access at any time through your Google Account settings
- Delete email by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by contacting us at [email protected]
- Export your Add-on data as JSON at any time
- Delete all Add-on data using the "Reset Data" function
- Uninstall the Add-on at any time to stop all data collection
